The host hotel is the Four Points Sheraton Hotel.  They have given us a great group discount of $109 per night, and the rate has been extended for 2 days prior and 2 days after the event for those wishing to make the event an extended vacation.  When making reservations, please be sure to mention “San Diego Police Event” to secure the discounted room rate.  The hotel is a short 15 minute drive away from San Diego’s main airport, Lindberg Field.

Once at the hotel, you will be given maps and information on other exciting things to do and see in San Diego.

Thursday, October 2nd. For those coming in early for other activities, we have an opportunity to have a group tour of the Joe Martin Foundation Craftsmanship Museum. The museum is not usually open on Thursdays, but will accomodate us if we can get a minimum of 10 people. This should not be too hard to do. The Museum link is below.

On Friday October 3rd, we will start (9 or 10 AM) by visiting the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Maintenance Facility/Fire Station #28.  This facility is located directly across the street from the hotel and offers numerous photos opportunities of fire apparatus, as well as a fire station that houses an engine, truck, and aircraft crash rig.  It is also home to the city’s paramedic (Rural Metro) maintenance facility.

This is a structured, pre- approved visit at an appointed date and time . We ask that you embark with us on the tour for photographs, etc.  Please do not go to the station on your own, organize your own “photo tour”, or use the events name to access the facility.  Arrangements are being made to make the tour very beneficial for all.

From there it will be a short five minute drive to the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division/Eastern Division Sub-station where you will be able to photograph various SDPD vehicles including the new Ford SUV’s and the actual car driven by yours truly.

Then it’s off to the San Diego Police Museum for a historic tour of the department.  The museum has dozens of artifacts and photos on display as well as a gift shop.

We will break for a quick lunch across the street from the museum at a retail center that offers various food options such as; L&L Hawaiian Barbeque, Popeye’s Chicken, Jersey Mike’s Sub’s, Smash Burger, etc.  I’m sure everyone will find something they like.

After lunch we head to Presidio Park in Old Town San Diego.  This historic site is known as the “birthplace” of San Diego.  The museum and surrounding area offer a rich history and look back into how San Diego was founded.

From there we will visit the San Diego County Sheriff’s Museum in Old Town San Diego.  After that, you will be free to explore all of the shops and sites that Old Town has to offer.  This will be a great place for the family to experience.

The day will end will a group dinner at the famous Old Town Mexican Café, one of San Diego’s best and most historic Mexican food restaurants, famous for their homemade tortillas and of course, tequila.

After that, we will all head back to the hotel where the banquet room will be available for individuals to set up their displays, relax at the bar, and catch up with old friends.

I’m hoping to have some vintage SDPD vehicles either on display at the museum or at the hotel.  And there may be a surprise or two that show up on Saturday at the hotel so be sure to have your cameras close by.

Please feel free to contact me or Rich Krom with any questions or concerns.  For those of you that made it to last year’s event in Kentucky, Chris and I are pleased to welcome you to our city.

It’s going to be a great event and we hope to see you all soon. Please email one of us if you have any questions.
